Praying the Psalms
Plan for the Evening
- Welcome - Practicing Praying for One Another
- Ask for 3 volunteers to pray for one of the following topics:
- One another and what we may be facing this week - Consider what we face on a day to day basis and how others may also face the same; pray for them as you would want someone to pray for your (loving your neighbor as yourself)
- Our church community - Praise for God’s Work thus far and for God to continue to keep us being faithful
- Our world - what headlines or news concern you about our world? Pray for God’s grace and mercy to pour out for the people of this world and for our leaders
- Bible Study Leader closes in prayer
- This week, we have joint service and so we are not yet back in Colossians - but we will resume what we learned last week by taking a look at certain types of Psalms
- Introduction to the different types of Psalms
- Practice praying one Psalm together (you can choose one or pray Psalm 23)
- Break up into groups of 3-4 (if not enough people come, then we can just stay as one group or break up into groups of 1-2).
- In your groups, consider the different types of Psalms available and read through a couple (you can do this together or individually)
- Choose one Psalm you would like to practice praying (if it is a longer Psalm, then you can choose to pray just a small section of the Psalm - you don’t always have to pray the entire Psalm every time)
- Share why the Psalm spoke to you
- Close out with a prayer
